It works by attaching an enzyme that the coronavirus uses to make copies. In this way, its multiplication prevents, and the viral load will keep at low levels in the body. And also, it reduces the severity of the disease.

According to the pharmaceutical company Merck, this should make the treatment effective against new variants of the coronavirus that may emerge later. The multinational pharmaceutical company has also said that Molnupiravir effectively works on all coronavirus variants. It also works, including the Delta variant, highly infectious and responsible for increasing hospitalizations and deaths worldwide.

The UK-approved drug will sell under the UK brand Lagevrio and must be taken twice a day for five days.
