The British Minister of Health, Sayid Javid, said that the United Kingdom had become the first country in the world to approve an antiviral drug for Covid-19. Also, he highlights that it is of a historic day for your country.
The Medicines Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reported that the drug must give to the patient immediately after testing positive for Covid-19 or within five days of confirmation of infection.
The regulator recommends that people with mild to moderate Covid-19 use Molnupiravir. And people who have at least one risk factor for developing a serious disease, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, or over 60 years old.
MHRA Director June Raine that the public can trust that the MHRA has conducted a robust and thorough evaluation of the Molnupiravir data without compromising quality, safety, and efficacy.
Data showed that the new product could decrease the chances of dying or being hospitalized in half for people most at risk of developing the virus.
It works by attaching an enzyme that the coronavirus uses to make copies. In this way, its multiplication prevents, and the viral load will keep at low levels in the body. And also, it reduces the severity of the disease.
According to the pharmaceutical company Merck, this should make the treatment effective against new variants of the coronavirus that may emerge later. The multinational pharmaceutical company has also said that Molnupiravir effectively works on all coronavirus variants. It also works, including the Delta variant, highly infectious and responsible for increasing hospitalizations and deaths worldwide.
The UK-approved drug will sell under the UK brand Lagevrio and must be taken twice a day for five days.
Other Companies Who Trying To Develop Pill Against COVID-19
