VLC Application Updated From Beta To Android 8.0 For Android Smartphones

The popular VLC video playback application for Android has been upgraded to support Android 8.0 and includes PIP mode.

When an operating system is updated we usually pay close attention to the new features included in the system but not so many APIs that come within it and in the long term are the ones that will bring more improvements.

One of the new features of Android 8.0 is the possibility that third-party applications use PIP or picture in picture mode that allows you to use one application over another, this being thought for video playback. Sure you have seen it on YouTube, although the PIP mode is something more powerful.

VLC for Android includes PIP on Android 8.0

The last update of this application, still in beta, allows to use this function simply by opening a video, clicking on the icon of the three ellipsis points and then on the icon of the continuous line box inside the dashed line box. In this way we can see a video on any screen of the mobile while behind we do more things.

In spite of that it is possible to improve since the size of that window is fixed and can not adapt to our needs . This is somewhat less important in mobile phones but in tablets it would make a lot of sense.

Of course, when we click on the video that is played, it increases slightly in size, to show the playback controls and to pause, forward or close the video more comfortably.

Also the system notifies us that there is an application making use of the PIP, which is appreciated in order to cancel it.

PIP should be used for more applications

This picture in picture mode is developed for the videos but it would be interesting to work with other content applications as some LG apps like the list of notes or the calculator, to put two examples more or less practical. Surely the developers would benefit much.

If you want to try this option you must have Android 8.0 and install this VLC APK .
