The fish in its different presentations is an excellent food for our health; maybe it is one of the healthiest we can consume. The fish is easy to digest and quick to cook, for its natural flavors, you do not need an excellent preparation to enjoy its delicious taste. They are rich in proteins, vitamins A and D, minerals such as zinc and iron, calcium and fatty acids by omega 3.

It is also ideal when you want to lose weight, since the caloric intake of fish is quite low, about 80Kcal per 100 grams in lean fish and 200Kcal for bluefish.

Nutritionists recommend consuming a good fish two or three times a week to prevent diseases, strengthen the body, reduce anemia, reduce cholesterol, promote tissue regeneration and is ideal for cases of malnutrition in children.

1. Refrigeration:

Make sure that the fish you choose is refrigerated or on a thick layer of ice.

2. Odor:

Good Fish must have a soft and fresh smell. If you feel a sour smell like ammonia, is a sign that the fish is in poor condition. Keep in mind that bad odors intensify during cooking.

3. Appearance:

  • The meat of both the fish and the fillet should be bright and firm, make the test by pressing it, it should return to its place.
  • For fish with scales, note that these are not loose, the gills should be red, the eyes clear and translucent and should never be sunken.
  • For the fillets, check that they are not discolored, that they do not show darkening or drying on the edges.
  • In the case of clams, mussels and oysters check that the shells are not cracked.
    For seafood, the meat should be clear and bright, without a strong odor.

Be careful

  • According to the FDA, frozen fish and shellfish that decompose during the transfer and can withstand high temperatures can decompose.
  • Check that the bag does not have frost or ice crystals, this means that it is likely that it has been frozen for a long time or that it had already been thawed and refrozen.
  • If you bought the fish and you are not going to consume it in the next 24 hours, it is better than congeles, since in the refrigerator it is likely to decompose in 2 or 3 days.
