You have a cell phone that does not charge with your wall charger but it does when it is connected to the USB of a computer. It’s a problem? What solutions are there?

Mobile batteries have their own history. In fact, there is no more controversial component than this. On the one hand is vital for the life of our smartphone, and on the other it tends to skimp on its size in mAh getting that life is less than that of a fly. And if we put ourselves in everything that implies its load…

Leaving aside the myths with the battery, to which I already dedicated an article, there are hundreds of problems around the charge that could lead a mystery movie. Among them one very recurrent: why my mobile does not load with the charger and yes when I connect it to the USB port of, for example, a computer? There are many explanations, but the main ones are two: the charger has been damaged or not suitable.

The charger delivers incorrect power, is unstable or has been damaged

With fast charging we have chargers, cables and smartphones that must be kept within a standard for safe charging. We already know what can happen if we do not give the right conditions of loading, so it’s not a question of joking.

Depending on the chargers, these will deliver a maximum power in watts that will modulate based on varying voltage and amperage. As the mobiles are not ready to connect to all the chargers, your smartphone probably will stop charging when it detects that the power delivered by the charger is excessive.

The mobile and the charger negotiate the transit of electricity so that at all times the load is adequate. If you see that your phone does not charge when plugged into the charger is because it is not suitable for the device or because it has been damaged . If it worked before, chances are that the second thing happened.

Why does the mobile charge when it is connected to a computer’s USB port?

We have already seen how a charger can deliver more or less power depending on its ability to modulate voltage and amperage: the mobile will not charge if it detects that the power of the load puts the battery and, by extension, the device. But the thing changes when you connect the smartphone to the USB of a computer.

The output load of a USB is standard and low power. Typically, this USB output from a computer (and any other device) is set to 5 volts and 0.5 amps; Which gives a power of 2.5 watts (multiplying the voltage and amperage). Being a low power there is no risk of overheating for either the battery or the cable. And the mobile, being in a situation of security, will accept loading without problems. Always slow loading, of course.

It is always preferable to charge the mobile with the charger that came standard, or, failing that, use a generic that respects the voltage and output amperage. If your smartphone is compatible with fast charging it acquires a charger and cable that supports its technology. QuickCharge, DASH, Adaptive… Each brand can have yours.

When the mobile does not load you should check step by step where the error is. Never unplug the charger, use chargers with similar characteristics to the original and, if no other type of charge is possible, use the slow charge of a computer’s USB. Securing the charging elements is ensuring the life of your mobile.
