At the beginning of June, we told you about how some Wikipedia editors wanted the online encyclopedia to be on the Dark Web as a hidden service. The reason for this was to have a more secure access to the site, which can be accessed anonymously, and to guarantee access to people where Wikipedia is censored.

Although the Wikimedia Foundation has not realized this idea, a former Facebook engineer has taken the work into his own hands and thanks to that we now have an unofficial version of the Wikipedia in the Dark Web.

The difference between accessing normal Wikipedia using Tor and accessing this version is that the first one is not hidden. That is, your traffic needs to go outside the boundaries of the Tor network, with this unofficial version it is different.

It is a personal project of developer Alec Muffet, the first to create a specially developed Wikipedia onion website.

Muffet used its own open-source toolkit to achieve it: Enterprise Onion Toolkit (EOTK). This can be used to create hidden versions on the dark web of other websites, such as the one launched by Facebook in 2014.

To access this version you must use Tor browser and paste this link: https://www.qgssno7jk2xcr2sj.onion/ . When you try to enter you will find a warning message about the security certificate, this is because the site uses a self-signed certificate, so you must add the exception to the addresses.

Muffler hopes to get help from the community to make this a permanent service because he is maintaining the server by his own means.
